Description of Organization: Hannah House Maternity Home is a non profit agency providing supported transitional housing to pregnant and parenting young women under the age of 21 in the Niagara Region. Our focus is on facilitating the transition from adolescence to adulthood and equipping young moms and moms-to-be for their future roles in the community.

Programs:

Rock Solid – A 40 week life skills program for the residents of Hannah House. Topics taught include organization, finances, nutrition, hobbies, time for mom, parenting, job searching, healthy relationships and the skills of communication.

Healthy Food, Healthy Budget – This program, designed for the residents of Hannah House and funded by the Branscombe Foundation, teaches how to implement healthy eating on a limited budget. Topics include meal planning, cost effective grocery shopping, preparing meals from scratch, growing a garden, and safe food preparation and storage. Residents practice these topics on a regular basis during their stay at Hannah House to better equip them when they move out.

Life Coaching – From her initial point of contact with Hannah House, a young pregnant woman is paired with a Client Support Worker (CSW) from Hannah House. This CSW meets the client in the community, completing a needs assessment and answering any questions the client has about the programs and services offered at Hannah House. While residing at Hannah House the CSW walks alongside the resident as she works on 5 elements of success: finances, relationships, skills, education, and baby. Upon move out of Hannah House, the CSW meets with the client in the community for approximately 6 months, assisting her where necessary as she transitions back into the community
