Fresh Start Maternity Supports provides a safe environment and extensive support to pregnant and parenting women, many of whom are facing challenges related to parenting and life skills, addictions, mental health issues, abuse and homelessness.
Our strength is empowering women by connecting them with the appropriate supports necessary for each individual woman to obtain a healthy life style for her and her child/children. We seek to address the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of the women and children we serve. A primary Client Support worker assists each resident in developing a personal support plan which focuses on her specific needs and goals.
Women can come to Fresh Start for support at any time during their pregnancy and stay in the program for approximately 2 years if our full range of support is accessed. We also provide community support to women who transition into the Elgin County area after they leave our program.
Services and Supports Include:
Group Home – maternity home * medical care, life skills, education, counselling, recreation, and aftercare for mothers and babies * length of stay for the duration of pregnancy until ready to move to supportive housing or into the community.
“Pregnancy Support Centre- offers information and referrals to community services as well as access to our Care Closet for women in need in the community.”.
Supportive Housing – provides affordable housing to women 18 years and over in need of prenatal and postnatal support.
Care Closet – contains maternity clothes, baby clothes and baby items which are available free of charge to moms
